An inkless tattoo of a circle on my left wrist. A symbol of eternity done in a medium that doesn’t last. An art piece that demonstrates the transience of permanence, really. The irony of how forever doesn’t really last forever. Circles are so beautiful, but beauty never lasts. Or it lasts forever, which is the same thing as not forever. We can’t appreciate things we can’t miss.
I have taught the sadness within me
What it means to sing and die.
I have grown flowers in the ditch,
I have taught the wind how to dance,
I have shown my sadness how to fly.
I fashioned wings upon it,
I sewed shells into it’s eyes.
I do not think that it will sing to me.
I have drawn so many circles.
I see them all the time.
The insides of pocket watches,
Moons, heads, bellies, eyes.
Earth, nipples, freckles, oranges.
I can’t stop seeing them,
I will teach them how to fly.
