I was submitting myself to your will,
like the wolf who bears his throat
to the teeth of the alpha.
I beg you, please, don’t draw my blood.
“Show me how sorry you are,” you said,
so I peeled the clothing from my shaking body
(I was so afraid)
and sank to my knees.
You brushed your teeth against my throat
and forgave me and that
was the exact moment
I decided to love you.
Or maybe it was the sheer vulnerability
that I chose to cloak myself in,
for your sake.
Do you understand how I would not
and have not
ever done that
for another person
before you?
Not even Jonathan.
Not even Jonathan.
Later on, after we were finished,
you told me that the first time you saw my face,
my smile,
that you knew.
I didn’t have the courage to ask what you knew,
but I love you too.
What has passed between us
shall not return from where it came.
